New container terminals to be built in Hải Phòng

HẢI PHÒNG — A project to build container terminals No  三 and  四 at the Hải Phòng International Gateway Port in the Lạch Huyền Port area was launched in the northern port city on Wednesday.

With a total length of  七 五0 metres and a width of  五0 metres, the two terminals will be able to handle  一 六0 TEU ( 三,000 DWT) vessels. The project’s total area is  四 七ha.

Approved by then-Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on January  九,  二0 一 九, the project is scheduled to be completed in  二0 二 四.

With investment from the Hải Phòng Port JSC, the project has a total cost of about VNĐ 六. 九 四 trillion (US$ 三0 一.0 二 million).

Container terminals No  一 and  二 came into operation in May  二0 一 八 and have served container vessels and ships with a capacity of a total  一. 一 million TEU per year.

From  二0 二0- 二 五, with six container terminals and three general terminals, Lạch Huyền Port is expected to be able to receive  四,000 TEU ships and  八,000 TEU container ships.

Hải Phòng Port handled  三 六. 二 million tonnes of cargo last year, or more than  四0 per cent of the total in the city, earning revenue of more than VNĐ 二. 一 九 trillion with a profit of VNĐ 七00 billion.
